Sustainability That Works

On July 7, Live Earth featured a live concert of 100 music artists from eight cities around the world to “trigger a global movement to solve the climate crisis.” The 24-hour event hosted two billion people. More than 10 million people watched the concert on MSN.com.

Millions are taking the Live Earth Pledge. People across the globe have pledge to protect our environment and build “a sustainable, just, and prosperous world for the 21st century.”

Bernardo Flooring & Design is committed to do its part. By partnering with Mohawk, we offer flooring that can be renewed, recycled, reduce waste, and sustain the environment.

Mohawk’s SmartStrand® with DupontTM Sorona® polymer substitutes agricultural resources for petroleum-based chemicals while remaining durable and stain resistant. Every 7 yards of 40-ounce Smartstrand saves one gallon of gasoline.

All Mohawk manufactured ceramic tile comes from plants that don’t produce one drop of waste water! This means that Mohawk recovered and reused more than 55 million gallons of wastewater in 2006 alone.

As a committed environmentally friendly flooring manufacturer, Mohawk is always finding ways to reuse materials. Mohawk Industries uses nearly 25% of all recycled plastic bottles collected in North America – about 3 billion soda bottles – each year. Each year, Mohawk’s laminate products keep 680 million pounds of material out of landfills by producing boards in the U.S. made of 75 percent pre-consumer recycled content.
